Chung Metal provides Inconel 617 Forgings, a nickel‑base alloy with high temperature properties forged for use when strength, resistance to oxidation and carburization, and good structural stability are needed. The forging improves the material’s structure, enhancing creep resistance, toughness, and uniformity in service at high temperatures. 617 forgings apply where both mechanical and environmental stresses are high, for example, in gas turbines, petrochemical facilities, industrial furnaces, and heat exchanger applications.
Alloy 617 contains around 47‑53% nickel, 20‑25% chromium, ~8‑10% molybdenum, 8‑10% cobalt, with minor aluminum and titanium. Material is solid‑solution strengthened. Tensile strength in forged and annealed/tempered state typically in the order of ~800‑1,000 MPa (section size‑dependent and depending on precise forging/heat treatment), yield strength lower, elongation in 20‑35% range. Good creep strength at high temperatures (700‑1,100°C), very good oxidation / corrosion resistance, robust fatigue and thermal stability.

Temperature control during forging of Inconel 617 ensures optimal grain structure, improving its strength, durability, and resistance to thermal creep. Proper temperature management also prevents material defects like cracking or distortion, enhancing overall quality.
Inconel 617 forgings may experience reduced ductility at lower temperatures, limiting their ease of fabrication. Additionally, they can be costly due to the complex alloy composition and manufacturing processes.
Inconel 617 forgings require periodic inspections to detect signs of oxidation or wear, particularly at elevated temperatures. Regular cleaning and protective coatings can help maintain their performance in harsh, high-temperature environments.
Inconel 617 Forgings for structural parts of gas turbine (combustor liners, transition ducts), parts of industrial furnace, reaction vessels, heat exchanger tubes, and piping for high temperature / corrosive applications. Also utilized in petrochemical, refinery, and chemical process facilities, particularly in those exposed to combined stress, heat, and oxidation or carburization. Forgings are more ideal for critical load‑carrying parts and where welded or bolted assemblies are required to withstand deformation at high temperature.
