Chung Metal provides high-grade Invar 42 Bars and Rods for low expansion applications and thermal matching with glass or ceramics. Invar 42 has a higher nickel content compared to Invar 36, providing controlled thermal expansion characteristics. Made in compliance with international metallurgical standards, Invar 42 is exported in forged, rolled, and precision-machined conditions for specialized industries. It is especially important in electronics, hermetic packaging, and instruments. Our quality control group maintains strict composition control and mechanical integrity.
Invar 42 consists of about 42% nickel and the remainder iron, with small amounts of carbon, manganese, and silicon. The CTE is somewhat greater than that of Invar 36 (~5 x10⁻⁶/°C), perfect for glass-to-metal seals. Tensile strength is ~500–650 MPa, yield strength about 240 MPa, and elongation to 25–35%. Density is ~8.1 g/cm³. The alloy is stable in the 20–300°C range and is fairly magnetic. Machining, welding, and cold working can be done without important loss of properties.

Yes, laser welding can be used for Invar 42 bars. Its low thermal expansion properties make it suitable for precision welding, though attention is needed to manage heat input and distortion.
Yes, Invar 36 bar and rod can be welded, but it requires special care due to its low expansion properties. Proper welding techniques, such as TIG or MIG, are recommended.
Yes, specific welding consumables for Invar 36 bar and rod include Invar 36 electrodes, TIG rods, and MIG wires. These materials ensure proper fusion and minimize thermal expansion issues during welding.
Invar 42 rods find common application in electronic packaging, lead frames, glass-to-metal seals, vacuum tubes, integrated circuits, and optical systems. It is especially significant in military and aerospace uses where dimensional accuracy is the utmost concern. Invar 42’s suitability to glass and ceramics makes it highly suitable for CRT and laser enclosures, microwave parts, and sensor covers. The alloy provides mechanical and thermal stability in delicate electronic and measuring systems, enhancing accuracy and performance across various temperatures.
