Chung Metal Manufacturer & Suppliers in Da Nang provides excellent quality O1 tool & die steel bars, one of the most popular cold-work tool steels that offers a good balance of wear resistance, toughness, and machinability. We manufacture close-tolerance O1 bars with clean microstructure and full certification. Our processes guarantee low defects, dimensional stability, and fine finish. Toolmakers and manufacturing businesses prefer our O1 stock for general tooling applications due to its strong performance in cutting, forming, and stamping operations, making it a trusted option across industries.
O1 tool steel has ~0.9–1.0% carbon, ~0.5% manganese, ~0.4% chromium, and ~0.3% tungsten along with trace silicon. In annealed state, tensile strength ~700 MPa, elongation ~10–12%. After hardening and tempering, O1 has hardness ~60–62 HRC, with good resistance to wear and reasonable toughness. It is easy to machine in the annealed condition and shows satisfactory response to quench and temper cycles. It provides a good balance between hardness, toughness, and manufacturability.

When choosing O1 tool and die steel bars, consider factors like hardness, wear resistance, machinability, heat treatment requirements, intended application (e.g., cutting, stamping), and cost-effectiveness for long-term use.
O1 tool and die steel bars have moderate resistance to corrosion due to their carbon content and alloy composition. However, they are not stainless and can rust without proper maintenance, such as coating or regular oiling.
O1 tool and die steel can be welded, but it's crucial to preheat and control cooling rates to prevent cracking. Post-welding heat treatment is recommended to restore its hardness and properties.
O1 bars are used in general-purpose dies, punches, shear blades, thread rolling dies, and blanking, stamping, and forming tooling. They are also used in jigs, gauges, cutting tools, and tooling inserts. O1 is widely used in die-cutting, trimming, and blanking operations in sheet metal shops. Due to its machinability in annealed condition, it can be used to make complex shapes, then it can be hardened for wear. It is an economical option for tooling in medium-duty applications where high toughness and moderate wear resistance are essential.
