Da Nang Chung Metal Manufacturer & Suppliers provides superior W1 tool & die steel bars for those applications that necessitate shock resistance, wear resistance, and outstanding toughness. W1 is a water-hardening tool steel much acclaimed in general-purpose tooling. We provide round and flat bars with tight tolerances, metallurgical uniformity, and complete certifications. Our techniques promote low residual stresses and uniform microstructure. Toolmakers, mold designers, and die shops rely on our W1 stock for cutting tools, punches, and dies requiring good machinability and hardenability at cost-effective conditions.
Tool steel W1 has ~1.00% carbon, ~0.40% manganese, ~0.40% silicon, and minor chromium and tungsten (low alloy). It is water hardening. Annealed, tensile strength ~590 MPa, yield ~350 MPa, elongation ~15–20%. With hardening and tempering, hardness up to ~60–65 HRC is achievable, with strength >2,000 MPa. It provides good wear resistance, shock absorption, and decent toughness for general-purpose tooling. But it is not as resistant to softening at high temperature as more highly alloyed dies steels.

Tool and Die Steel W1 bars are recyclable, reducing environmental impact. However, their production involves energy-intensive processes. Sustainable practices can enhance their eco-friendliness, such as using recycled materials and cleaner manufacturing methods.
Tool and Die Steel W1 bars are not highly resistant to corrosion, as they are high-carbon steels. They can rust when exposed to moisture, requiring proper maintenance, such as coating or regular oiling, to prevent corrosion.
Tool and Die Steel W1 bars are not ideal for structural applications due to their high carbon content, which makes them brittle and less ductile. They are better suited for tools, dies, and cutting applications where hardness and wear resistance are crucial. For structural applications, steels with better toughness and strength, like carbon or alloy steels, are preferred.
W1 tool & die steel bars are utilized to produce general-purpose punches, cutting tools, shearing blades, drills, saw blades, and dies for light and medium loads. It is appropriate for tools of stamping, blanking, and forming where good wear resistance and medium toughness are adequate. W1 is commonly used in tool shops for molds, gauges, fixtures, and jigs. Due to its lesser cost, it is utilized where there is no need for extreme loading or heat. The fact that it can be quenched in water allows high wear life and hardness in most tooling applications.
