Chung Metal provides Haynes 188 Bars & Rods, a cobalt‑nickel‑chromium‑tungsten superalloy specifically designed for very high temperature and oxidizing service. Haynes 188 is designed to deliver superior strength at temperatures up to about 1095°C, while retaining good oxidation, sulfidation, and hot corrosion resistance. Our bars and rods are forged or wrought with precise control of chemistry, microstructure, and mechanical properties, providing excellent toughness and performance under thermal cycling. These materials are particularly well-suited for aerospace and power generation applications in turbines, afterburners, combustor components, transition ducts, and exhaust sections.
Haynes 188 (UNS R30188) contains about 20‑24% nickel, 20‑24% chromium, 13‑16% tungsten, and the remainder mainly cobalt. Minor constituents up to ~1.25% manganese, ~0.35‑0.50% silicon, minor carbon (~0.05‑0.15%), lanthanum (~0.03‑0.12%), iron up to ~3%, and trace phosphorus/sulphur. Its density is approximately 8.98 g/cm³. Mechanical characteristics consist of extremely high tensile strength (usually in excess of 900‑1300 MPa depending on cold working and temper), yield strength as high; elongation is moderate (~30% or more depending on temper) in softer annealed/wrought conditions, hardness and strength rise with cold work, though elongation decreases accordingly.

Haynes 188 bars and rods exhibit excellent high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance, maintaining structural integrity up to 2000°F (1093°C), making them ideal for aerospace, turbine, and high-performance engine applications.
To maintain Haynes 188 bars, regularly inspect for corrosion or wear, avoid excessive temperature fluctuations, clean with non-abrasive methods, and store in a dry, cool environment to prevent degradation.
Yes, Haynes 188 rods can be customized in size and length according to specific requirements. Manufacturers can provide tailored solutions based on customer specifications for industrial applications.
Haynes 188 Bars & Rods find extensive application in high‑temperature aerospace components like combustor liners, transition ducts, flame‑holders, afterburner parts, and turbine engine components where both oxidation resistance and creep strength are important. They find application in industrial furnaces, hot exhaust systems, and power generation equipment as well. The resistant nature of the alloy to hot corrosive atmospheres, chlorides and molten salts and its ability to maintain mechanical integrity at high temperature qualify it for long life in severe thermal and chemical exposure.
