Chung Metal supplies Haynes 556 Bars & Rods, an iron-nickel-cobalt-chromium superalloy designed for harsh service at high temperatures and corrosive conditions. With superior sulfidation, carburization, chloride, and molten salt resistance, it also has good oxidation resistance and high strength at elevated temperatures. Our Haynes 556 bars/rods are manufactured with superior metallurgical and surface quality, uniform chemistry, and mechanical properties to satisfy stringent operational requirements. Suitable for parts that need to withstand hostile atmospheres, fluctuating thermal cycling, and corrosive industrial gas streams.
Haynes 556 nominal composition is approximately 20% nickel, 18% cobalt, 22% chromium, along with molybdenum (~3%), tungsten (~2.5%), tantalum (~0.6%), with iron as balance. Small additions are nitrogen (~0.2%), silicon, manganese, aluminum, and very small quantities of carbon, boron, and zirconium. In annealed or treated solution conditions, the alloy exhibits tensile and yield strength in high temperature conditions; at room temperature its yield may be on scale of 375‑450 MPa, tensile ~800‑850 MPa in bar/sheet forms based on thickness and finish, with elongation generally above 40–50%. It preserves its high temperature strength under harsh corrosive environment and it shows stable microstructure at high temperature.
Haynes 556 bars typically come with a rough finish as standard, but they can also be supplied with a smooth finish upon request, depending on customer specifications and applications.
Yes, Haynes 556 rods can be customized in size and length according to specific requirements, offering flexibility for various applications in industries needing high-performance materials.
Haynes 556 bars and rods perform excellently in high-temperature environments, offering superior resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and thermal fatigue, making them ideal for applications in extreme heat and harsh conditions.
Haynes 556 Bars & Rods are applicable in industrial gas turbines, furnace parts, structural components of waste heat recuperators, burner buckets, heat exchangers, and incinerator internals. It is applied also in chemical process plants exposed to chlorinated or sulfurous environments and metallurgical processes where molten zinc or molten chlorides exist. For waste incinerator, pulp & paper, cement, and for power generation preheaters, 556 is selected due to its corrosion resistance, fabricability, and high-temperature strength. It is also used where the parts are welded, formed, and subsequently exposed to hot, aggressive environments.
