SS 347 has ~17–19% Cr, ~9–13% Ni, and titanium stabilizing additions (~0.5%); carbon moderate (~0.04–0.10%). Mechanical behavior: tensile strength ~585–750 MPa, yield ~205–380 MPa, elongation ~30–40%. The titanium addition avoids precipitation of carbides (sensitization) upon thermal exposure. Forging provides better toughness, finer grain structure, and higher strength.

Stainless Steel 347 forgings have limitations in extreme temperatures above 1600°F (870°C), susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking in chloride environments, and reduced formability compared to some other stainless steel grades.
The forging temperature range for Stainless Steel 347 is typically between 2100°F (1149°C) and 2200°F (1204°C). It ensures optimal grain structure and mechanical properties for high-performance applications.
Stainless Steel 347 forgings require minimal maintenance, primarily periodic cleaning to remove contaminants. Regular inspection for corrosion or wear is recommended, along with ensuring proper lubrication for moving parts in harsh environments.
Used in furnace and boiler internal components, heat exchangers, chemical processing, exhaust systems, and structural components in high temperature corrosive exposure. Also in aircraft exhaust manifolds, turbine components, piping and flanges in hostile heat. 347 forgings are the choice when thermal stability and resistance to intergranular corrosion during cyclic temperature exposure are needed.
