Stainless Steel 321 is an austenitic stainless steel consisting mainly of approximately 17–19 % chromium, 9–12 % nickel, with additions of titanium (stabilizer, ∼0.5–1.0 %) to avoid precipitation of chromium carbide. Small quantities of manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, and carbon (<0.08 %) are also present. Mechanical properties are tensile strength of 515–700 MPa depending on cold working, yield strength of 205‑275 MPa, elongation of about 40–60 %, and good toughness even at higher temperatures. Has very good oxidation resistance up to about 800‑900 °C.
