Stainless Steel 430 has approximately 16‑18 % chromium content, very low carbon (<0.12 %), trace amounts of manganese, silicon, phosphorus and sulfur, but very little nickel. It is ferritic, not heat treatable for hardening. Tensile strength is approximately 450‑600 MPa, yield strength is about 200‑350 MPa, elongation is approximately 20‑30 %, and excellent toughness at room temperature. Hardness is moderate; not martensitic. It is magnetic in nature, with good ductility and weldability.
