Chung Metal offers Stainless Steel 446 rectangular bars, an up-chromium ferritic alloy engineered for superior oxidation and scaling resistance at high temperatures. Chung Metal’s 446 bars are produced with focus on metallurgical quality, dimensional accuracy, and quality assurance. Our bars are appropriate for applications where temperature, oxidation, and thermal cycling are issues greater than normal corrosion.
SS 446 has high chromium (~23–27%), low nickel (frequently negligible), carbon moderate to low, and trace amounts of silicon and manganese. Being a ferritic steel, it is ferromagnetic, normally does not undergo phase transformations, and possesses moderate strength and excellent ductility (elongation ~20–30%). Tensile strength varies with thickness and condition (e.g. ~400–600 MPa). Its exceptional quality is oxidation resistance at high temperatures (~800‑900 °C and higher).

When selecting Stainless Steel 446 Rectangular Bars, consider factors like temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and the specific environmental conditions. Additionally, ensure compatibility with the required mechanical properties and fabrication needs.
Stainless Steel 446 Rectangular Bars are not ideal for cryogenic applications due to their reduced toughness at low temperatures. For cryogenic use, materials with better low-temperature properties, like austenitic stainless steels, are recommended.
Stainless Steel 446 Rectangular Bars generally do not require additional corrosion protection coatings due to their inherent high corrosion resistance. However, in highly aggressive environments, coatings may be used for added protection.
Applied in furnace frames, hot ducting, exhaust systems, heat equipment, and structural supports in high-temperature areas. Rectangular bars provide ease of welding and joining of structure in high-heat structures. 446 bars are the best where scaling, oxidation, and heat exposure are the key problems—i.e., furnace structures, kiln supports, gas ducting, and thermal frameworks.
