420 Stainless Steel is a martensitic stainless steel with high carbon, with approximately 0.15–0.40 % carbon (occasionally more), 12–14 % chromium, and trace amounts of manganese, silicon, sulfur and phosphorus. Hardness up to around 50–55 HRC after tempering and hardening. Tensile strength around 600 to 800 MPa; yield strength around 250‑400 MPa; elongation in annealed state approximately 20‑30 %. Relatively average ductility and excellent edge retention, although lower corrosion resistance than austenitic grades.
