Chung Metal offers Stainless Steel 316L square bars and rods, a low-carbon molybdenum‑alloyed austenitic stainless steel possessing outstanding corrosion resistance. Our square bars and rods are made with tight dimensional control, certified metallurgy, and high-quality surface finish. Applications of industries like marine, chemical, food processing, and pharmaceutical include 316L square stock frames, supports, shafts, and structural elements that need both corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. The reduced carbon level helps welded structures to be free from intergranular corrosion, and the alloy remains consistently good in varying environmental conditions.
SS 316L has ~16–18% chromium, ~10–14% nickel, ~2–3% molybdenum, with ≤0.03% carbon. Small amounts of other minor alloying elements are present. Tensile strength ~485–690 MPa, yield ~170–275 MPa, elongation ~40%. Hardness moderate. The addition of molybdenum enhances pitting and crevice corrosion resistance over 304. Low carbon minimizes carbide precipitation on heat-affected zones, making 316L advantageous for welded assemblies. Toughness, ductility and weldability are still good.
