Heat treatable to a high hardness of 420 square rods are produced by Chung Metal with outstanding dimensional accuracy and surface finish. They are well suited to the production of tooling and parts that need to withstand friction, load, and abrasive wear. The square form provides structural integrity and consistency to components in rigorous engineering usage.
SS 420 square bars have 12–14% chromium and 0.15–0.40% carbon. This martensitic hardenable grade provides tensile strength to 1300 MPa and hardness levels of up to 50 HRC following heat treatment. Yield point is roughly 500–700 MPa, with 10–20% elongation. The bars are ferromagnetic and have moderate corrosion resistance in non-officious environments. Square shape for extra stability for precision cutting and forming. SS 420 offers a balance of mechanical performance and surface wear resistance and is hence ideal for forming high-performance, wear-resistant components.
