AISI 52100 is a high carbon chromium alloy steel containing ~1.00% C, 1.50% Cr, along with trace amounts of Mn, Si, S, P. In hardened and tempered state, tensile strength is up to 1,800–2,200 MPa, yield strength ~1,650–1,900 MPa, and hardness ~60–65 HRC. Elongation is restricted, usually ~10% or less. The steel possesses excellent fatigue strength, wear resistance, and dimensional stability. Microstructure consists of fine carbides in a tempered martensitic matrix.
