Aluminium 5754 is made up mainly of aluminium with approximately 3.0‑3.6 % magnesium, minute quantities of manganese (≈0.5 %), and some chromium; negligible iron and silicon. It provides moderate tensile strength (~200‑260 MPa), yield strength of about 110‑160 MPa, and elongation (in annealed condition) of about 20‑30 %. It has lower hardness than heat‑treatable alloys; moderate strength but very good work hardening. Excellent fatigue strength and maintains properties when welded. Non heat‑treatable; strength rises slightly with cold work; maintains superb corrosion resistance, particularly in salt water or marine environments.
