Chung Metal provides Stainless Steel 416 Hollow Bars, which is one of martensitic stainless alloys with high strength and outstanding machinability. 416 finds application where moderate corrosion resistance is viable and precision machining or forming is necessary. Our hollow bars are processed for consistency, dimensional control, and mechanical performance. Applications where heat treatable stainless steel of good mechanical strength and good machinability are required. Chung Metal provides this grade hollow bar particularly to industries such as fasteners, shafts, and machinery parts.
SS 416 has ~12‑14% chromium, carbon ~0.15‑0.40%, sulfur additions of ~0.15‑0.30% or selenium to enhance machinability, with balancing iron. It can be heat-treated to harden with high strength: tensile strength when hardened may be ~700‑850 MPa, yield ~450‑600 MPa, with elongation ~10‑20%. In annealed state, reduced strengths but good machinability. Hardness is high after tempering, good to moderate ductility. Corrosion resistance is inferior to austenitic stainless; somewhat more susceptible in specific environments.

SS 416 hollow bars are not ideal for high-temperature applications due to their reduced corrosion resistance and mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. They perform best in moderate conditions, excelling in machinability and wear resistance for general engineering uses.
416 Hollow Bars are applied to shafts, spindles, pinion gears, fasteners, and parts where precision machining is necessary. Also in pump shafts, valve components, and situations where automated machining is severe. In a few food‑processing or industrial environments, 416 is applied when moderate corrosion resistance (particularly to water or mild atmosphere) is adequate. The hollow shape is ideal for saving weight in shaft‑application or center holes‑requiring applications. Suitable in elements that need good strength, size, and machinability but not excessive corrosion or temperature characteristics.
