SS 316 has ~16‑18% chromium, ~10‑14% nickel, ~2‑3% molybdenum, and low carbon (in typical 316). Density ~8.0 g/cm³. Tensile strength usually ~515‑700 MPa, yield ~205‑300 MPa, elongation ~40%. High toughness, good weldability and formability. Corrosion resistance to chloride environments is considerably better than typical 304. Hollow bar configuration maintains mechanical properties with reduced weight; in many applications can be used basically like pipe or tube stock.
