Chung Metal provides Stainless Steel 446 Hollow Bars, a high chromium content ferritic stainless steel grade used for scaling and high temperature resistance. 446 is useful in applications where high temperature oxidation is of concern. Our hollow bars are produced to ensure dimensional accuracy, metallurgical integrity, and certified properties. Applications such as furnace and exhaust systems, thermal waste treatment, and heating elements depend upon the Chung Metal 446 hollow bar stock because of its extended life in severe thermal oxidation conditions.
SS 446 has high chromium (~23‑27%), low nickel (generally very low or none), low to moderate carbon, along with trace amounts of silicon and manganese. It is a ferritic stainless steel and therefore magnetic with moderate strength and good ductility (elongation ~20‑30%) and yield/tensile strength varying with condition (tensile ~400‑600 MPa based on thickness and treatment). It is highly resistant to scaling and oxidation in high-temperature (e.g. 800‑900°C) service. Hardness moderate; weldability more restricted than austenitic grades due to the ferritic nature and potential for brittleness if incorrectly heated.

SS 446 hollow bars are primarily used in high-temperature applications such as furnace components, heat exchangers, chemical processing, and power generation, due to their excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion.
SS 446 hollow bars typically contain 23-27% chromium, 1-2% silicon, 0.75% manganese, and small amounts of carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, and nickel, providing excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation and corrosion.
Key benefits of SS 446 hollow bars include excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, superior corrosion resistance, durability in harsh environments, and strength at elevated temperatures, making them ideal for furnace and chemical processing applications.
Stainless Steel 446 Hollow Bars are employed in furnace muffles, heat exchanger supports, combustion chamber parts, and exhaust ducting. Also employed in high temperature oven lining, kiln components, and thermal oxidizer fittings. Employed for structural support in high‑temperature industrial applications, boiler flue gas ducts, and ornamental architecture in exposed heat conditions. Hollow bar form assists in lighter structural frames and sections. The grade is selected where oxidation resistance and high temperature shape stability are more important than high corrosion resistance or ductility.
