Chung Metal provides Stainless Steel 202 round bars and rods, a lower-cost austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese grade with good corrosion resistance in most environments. Our 202 rods are manufactured to close tolerances and metallurgical specifications. They provide an economical substitute for higher nickel stainless grades in mildly corrosive situations. Fabricators and manufacturers utilize 202 round bar stock where cost and moderate corrosion performance need to be balanced.
SS 202 generally contains ~17–19% chromium, ~4–6% nickel, ~7–10% manganese, with carbon ~0.15%. It has tensile strength ~520–750 MPa, yield ~205–350 MPa, elongation ~30–40%. Hardness moderate. Higher manganese content stabilizes austenitic structure at lower nickel content. Lower corrosion resistance than 304/316 but sufficient in most atmospheres and mildly corrosive situations. Rods are strong and workable.
