Chung Metal provides 317 stainless steel round bars and rods for service in severe chemical, marine, and high-corrosion conditions. 317 contains a higher molybdenum content than 316 and provides enhanced pitting resistance. Our rods are dimensionally accurate, metallurgically verified, and designed for fabrication and final parts machining. Applications requiring additional corrosion performance in chloride or acid service rely on 317 round stock supplied by Chung Metal.
SS 317 has ~18–20% chromium, ~11–14% nickel, ~3–4% molybdenum, carbon ~0.08%. Tensile strength ~515–700 MPa, yield ~205–300 MPa, elongation ~40%. Moderate hardness. The additional molybdenum enhances pitting and crevice corrosion resistance. Ductility and weldability are not lost. Round bars have the same mechanical and corrosion properties as plate or any other shape of 317.
