Chung Metal provides Stainless Steel 317L round bars and rods with superior corrosion resistance under adverse chemical environments. 317L is a low-carbon, molybdenum-enriched austenitic stainless steel to avoid sensitization. Our 317L rods are produced under strict precision controls, which ensure tight dimensional and metallurgical specifications. Applied in petrochemical, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries, 317L rods offer reliable performance in harsh acidic and chloride‑containing media. Being highly weldable and formable, these rods facilitate manufacturing of valves, shafts, and structural components demanding durability under corrosive conditions.
SS 317L has ~18–20% chromium, ~11–14% nickel, ~3–4% molybdenum and ≤ 0.03% carbon. It has Mn, Si and trace elements. Tensile strength ~515–695 MPa, yield ~205–300 MPa, elongation ~40–45%. Hardness moderate. The presence of molybdenum increases pitting and crevice corrosion resistance. The low carbon content prevents excessive carbide precipitation during welding. It is ductile, tough, and weldable and is a rugged selection for corrosive environments.

317L round bars and rods find applications in chemical processing, acid handling, desalination, and chloride-rich conditions. They find best use in the manufacture of pump shafts, valve stems, reactor internals, and structural supports in corrosive plants. In petrochemical and pharmaceutical processes, they are applied to piping, fittings, and equipment that are subjected to high concentrations of acids, chlorides, and hot conditions. Used in marine applications also, heat exchangers, and offshore structures. Their corrosion resistance makes them worthwhile where 316 might not be adequate, particularly in strong media and cyclic exposure.
