SS 321 has 17–19% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and is stabilized with titanium to prevent carbide formation upon welding. Carbon has ≤ 0.08% content. The alloy provides tensile strength of 500–700 MPa and yield strength of 200–300 MPa. Elongation is approximately 35–45%. It is non-magnetic, possesses high-temperature strength, and good weldability. The hexagonal shape provides accurate alignment in assembly and machining.
