Chung Metal manufactures hard Stainless Steel 410 Hex Bars, a martensitic stainless steel possessing high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and good wear characteristics. SS 410 can be heat-treated to enhance hardness and is suited for mechanical service where toughness as well as dimensional accuracy is required. The hex bar form has simple tool engagement, and it is therefore suitable for fasteners and high-stress connectors. Chung Metal makes precise machining, clean edges, and close dimensional tolerances on all 410 hex bars suitable for structural, mechanical, and lightly corrosive industrial applications.
SS 410 contains 11.5–13.5% chromium and 0.15% carbon. It is magnetic and can be heat-treated to up to 40 HRC hardness. Tensile strength is 700–1000 MPa, and yield strength is approximately 450–700 MPa. Elongation is 15–25%. Though corrosion resistance is weaker compared to austenitic grades, it is adequate for mild industrial and atmospheric exposure. The hex profile provides grip and location in machined assemblies. SS 410 Hex Bar has moderate corrosion resistance compared to other stainless steels like 304 or 316. It is susceptible to corrosion in chloride-rich environments and high-temperature conditions, making it less suitable for highly corrosive or marine applications.
SS 410 Hex Bar's hardness requires careful machining, as it can be challenging to cut and grind. High cutting speeds, proper tooling, and coolant usage are essential to prevent work hardening, ensure smooth surfaces, and extend tool life during processing.
410 hex bars are applied in pump shafts, valve components, screws, machine elements, cutting tools, and wear-resistant equipment. They are strong and hard enough to be applied in industrial machinery, car fittings, and light tooling. Hexagonal form fits well in fasteners, flanges, mechanical connectors, and high-precision applications where torque handling is needed. SS 410 is reliable in dry, slightly corrosive conditions.
