Chung Metal manufactures rugged Stainless Steel 347 Hex Bars, an austenitic stainless steel stabilized for welding and service application at elevated temperatures for corrosion resistance. SS 347 is stabilized with titanium or niobium to avoid carbide precipitation and can be used where there is heat and corrosive media. The hex bar form accommodates torque transmission and mechanical joining in fittings and hence is a popular shape for precision structural use. Chung Metal produces SS 347 hex bars with precise tolerances and clean surface finishes for demanding applications in industrial systems, especially those involving welding and thermal cycling.
SS 347 contains 17–19% chromium, 9–13% nickel, and niobium (columbium) to prevent intergranular corrosion. It contains ≤ 0.08% carbon. The alloy provides tensile strength of 550–750 MPa, yield strength of 200–300 MPa, and elongation of about 35–45%. It is weldable, non-magnetic, and corrosion-resistant in oxidizing environments. Hex bar design facilitates precise alignment and smooth torque transfer in assembly processes. Chung Metal offers SS 347 hex bars in heat and corrosion-resistant component size ranges.

SS 347 Hex Bars are widely used in aerospace, chemical processing, and power generation for applications requiring high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and strength. They outperform other grades due to their niobium stabilization, preventing carbide precipitation and ensuring durability.
SS 347 Hex Bars typically exhibit a tensile strength of 515-750 MPa, a yield strength of 205 MPa, and an elongation of 40% minimum. These properties ensure high durability, flexibility, and performance in demanding applications.
SS 347 Hex Bars commonly comply with standards like ASTM A276, ASTM A479, ASME SA479, and AMS 5646. These certifications ensure quality, dimensional accuracy, and performance for high-temperature and corrosion-resistant applications across industries, meeting stringent safety and reliability requirements.
347 hex bars are applied to exhaust manifolds, chemical processing machinery, pipe systems welded together, heat exchanger components, and flanged connectors. Their stabilization renders them suitable for welded assemblies under high temperatures, e.g., power plants, refineries, and thermal processing systems. The hex form enables secure mechanical attachments in bolted connections and fastener applications. SS 347 is effective in thermal cycling susceptible environments and in situations where weld decay is a possibility. Chung Metal provides these bars in engineering-grade conditions for stable, safe, and durable performance in challenging environments.
