Chung Metal produces Stainless Steel 317 Bars and Rods for severe corrosive applications that demand more resistance than that of 316. With higher nickel and molybdenum composition, 317 provides superior pitting as well as crevice corrosion resistance. 317 bars and rods are made in Da Nang, Vietnam, and are employed in severe chemical environments like pulp and paper, petrochemical, and production of dyes. 317 contains 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum with up to 0.08% carbon. It has tensile strength up to 700 MPa, yield strength ~205–275 MPa, and elongation ~35–40%. 317 is non-magnetic and has higher corrosion resistance in acidic and chloride environments than 316. It retains strength and ductility over a broad range of temperatures.

Stainless Steel 317 contains higher levels of molybdenum compared to other grades, enhancing its resistance to corrosion, particularly in aggressive environments like acidic and chloride-rich conditions.
317 bars and rods are also employed in chemical processing, paper and pulp bleaching, textile, and production of dyes. They find application in equipment that is exposed to sulfuric, acetic, and formic acids. Their use is in tanks, pumps, evaporators, and heat exchangers in extremely corrosive conditions. It is also employed in sea environments and pollution control systems where regular 316 is inadequate.
