Da Nang’s Chung Metal provides Aluminium 2017 forgings for heavy-duty applications with high strength and good machinability. As a 2xxx series copper-based alloy, 2017 enjoys superior fatigue life and stress-strain stability. Our closed-die forging and open-die forging methods guarantee improved grain structure, mechanical properties, and close tolerances. Aluminium 2017 forgings are well suited to aerospace and automotive parts that experience repeated stress. These components are meticulously heat-treated and processed to ensure high performance, providing consistent performance even under cyclic loading or excessive mechanical requirements.
Aluminium 2017 has about 3.5–4.5% copper, 0.4–1.0% magnesium, and 0.4–1.0% manganese and silicon, iron, and other trace elements. It is heat-treatable. The tensile strength is 420–490 MPa, the yield strength is 250–360 MPa, and elongation is 10–15% depending on temper and cross-section. Hardness is 95 to 120 HB. It is very machinable and moderately corrosion resistant, which can be improved by cladding or surface treatment.

Aluminum 2017 is suitable for forging but has limited high-temperature resistance. For high-temperature forging applications, consider alloys with better heat resistance, like 2219 or 2618.
The workability of Aluminum 2017, being moderate, affects forging by requiring precise temperature control (400–480°C) to prevent cracking and achieve proper plastic deformation, making it suitable for intricate shapes with care.
Aluminum 2017 offers high strength, excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance, and ease of welding, making it ideal for custom forgings in aerospace, military, and high-performance applications.
Aluminium 2017 forgings are generally employed in aerospace fittings, aircraft landing gear, drive shafts, precision automotive components, gear housings, and structural brackets. High fatigue strength and strength qualify it to be used in load-carrying mechanical assemblies. It is also employed extensively in high-performance machinery, tools, and components experiencing cyclic stress or needing good dimensional accuracy upon machining. Being moderately corrosion-resistant, 2017 is generally not found in marine environments without protective treatment.
