“Aluminium forgings” is an overall description of several aluminium alloys with different composition. In general, aluminium is alloyed with elements such as magnesium, silicon, copper, zinc, or manganese for enhanced strength. Forgings generally have better mechanical properties than cast structures: tensile strength may be ~200–600 MPa, yield strength ~120–500 MPa, and elongation ~10–25%, varies with alloy, and heat treatment. Density is ~2.68 g/cm³. Forged aluminium structures possess finer grain structure, less porosity, enhanced fatigue strength, and improved ductility and toughness than casting.

Yes, aluminium forgings can be shaped into custom designs using advanced forging techniques. Their excellent malleability and strength make them ideal for creating complex and precise shapes for various applications.
The ideal temperature range for aluminium forgings typically falls between 350°C to 520°C, depending on the alloy. This range ensures optimal malleability and prevents cracking during the forging process.
The forging process for aluminium typically takes a few minutes to an hour, depending on the complexity, size, and alloy type, along with required pre-heating and cooling times.
Aluminium forgings find application in aircraft structural components (wing fittings, gear housings), marine equipment, automotive connecting rods, suspension arms, and chassis fittings. They find application in bicycle parts, sports equipment, and military systems where weight savings and strength are critical. In food and process industries, forgings serve as valves, pump bodies, and structural connectors. Since forgings possess superior fatigue life, they can be used for rotating parts and load‑carrying pieces. Their machinability and weldability make them an industrial machinery, architectural feature, and custom engineering assembly versatile option.
