Aluminium 5005 has ~0.8% magnesium with small silicon, iron, and trace elements. It possesses a tensile strength of 170–210 MPa, yield strength 110–160 MPa, and elongation about 12–20%. Hardness is about 60–65 HB. It is not heat-treatable but hardens due to cold work. 5005 possesses good weldability, corrosion resistance (especially in marine atmospheres), and fine response to anodizing.

Aluminum 5005 is not ideal for high-temperature forging applications. It has moderate strength and good corrosion resistance but lacks the high-temperature stability needed for forging processes.
